how do you get so many eggs? Do you average 5 a day? What are they eating? We're not getting that many... of course we only have 5 hens....
I currently have 7 hens (two of them died during the summer) and right now I'm averaging three eggs a day. Some of the girls are molting and fall is a slow time for eggs. Also they are two years old and past their prime. BUT I've had other people tell me they are laying more then most hens their age. I let them roam around the backyard. They eat bugs, grass, kitchen scraps, and I throw out a daily handful of whole grains and give them a small amount of chicken feed every day. Seems to work for me. I'm no expert, but they are happy, healthy, and laying enough eggs for us to use and for me to sell at the farmers market.
