halloween cake

I love this cake! It tastes as good as it looks. It is made of orange flavored buttercream and dark chocolate ganache. YUMMMY! Inside are lots of black (ie chocolate) and orange layers of cake/filling.

stupid cute

These are actually cake balls dipped in chocolate. Everyone agreed they are stupid level cute. Food shouldn't be this adorable! They actually tasted pretty good, in a candy sort of way. I made them for the seminary kids. I was disappointed no one said anything. Camilla assured me no one would even think I did them, they look too professional. Oh well. They sure turned out cute!

A fall-themed baby shower cake. I love how the leaves turned out. They are all made of chocolate and taste delicious.

as funny as cakes get

As a cake decorator this is as funny as videos get.

epic fail

I wanted to give proof that I did make a beautiful cake. I was so happy that the only disaster of the wedding was my cake. I did manage to redecorate the bottom layer, so we did have something. This was the first wedding I've ever been to where the entire wedding cake was actually consumed.

Didn't this turn out cute?

Godzilla cake

I was asked to make a "boy" cake. I was thinking of making some aliens. I was conferring with my best cooking helper, my daughter, and she drew a picture of Godzilla fighting aliens. I dropped the aliens, but kept just about everything else about her drawing.

pretty treats

I'm the new seminary teacher for our building. That means I teach the teenagers the Gospel every school day at 5:30am. It is a privilege and more then a little scary. For our first meeting I wanted to do something a little special and I made these mini-cupcakes. I don't have anything to show how tiny they are, but they are about the size of a piece of chocolate from a valentine candy box. They turned out really cute. People went nuts over them. They are different from a normal cupcake because they are frosted with candy. So they are half way between a piece of candy and a slice of cake. I thought they turned out really cute, especially all put together on the tray like this.

april fools

Spaghetti and meatballs. I've been wanting to make this cake for a long time. My friend has a birthday on the 1st of April and that gave me the perfect excuse! The "meatballs" are chocolate so this not only looks cool it tastes divine.

gardening cake

This is actually a bunch of cupcakes. Didn't it turn out cute? It is 100% edible. The dirt is graham crackers/cocoa. The vegetables are different candies, ie laffy taffy, m+m's, star bursts, that sort of thing. The leaves are cornflakes dipped in candy. The seed packets are graham crackers dipped in white chocolate. It should taste great.

baby shower cake

This was a fun cake to make. My daughter, the artist, helped with making some of the figurines. They are all out of gumpaste. The blanket is fondant and the frosting is whipped cream. The whipped cream frosting makes a more amateur looking cake, but it was delicious. The cake celebrated a baby shower for two sisters, the Crapo girls.

snowman cupcakes

I got the idea for these cupcakes from a cooking magazine, but I used different methods then they did. I think they turned out cute.

white christmas cake

This didn't turn out quite as good as it was in my mind, but it's was ok. I'm still learning. It is a chocolate cake with white frosting and white chocolate "needles" all over. The red ribbon looks like red licorice, but it's not.

gingerbread snow castle

I entered a gingerbread contest. This is my entry. This is my first attempt at doing a gingerbread house. I think it turned out pretty cool.

sponge bob cake

This is a buttercream transfer cake. The kids were very impressed with it. It is easiest to do with a cartoon image; Sponge Bob qualifies. The nice thing about buttercream transfer cakes is that you can copy just about any simplistic commercial image and it looks perfect. The image is made of buttercream, not plastic, or fondant, or anything like that. You can eat the icing but the main ingredient is Crisco and I don't eat it.

graveyard cake

This was a totally edible cake. Isn't it fun? The skeleton is royal icing, the tombstones are candy dipped graham crackers and the tree is chocolate. OK, there is a lollipop stick to hold up the tree, but other than that the entire cake is edible.

Three of our scouts at church earned their eagle scout award. This is the cake I made for the celebration.

Under the sea cake

What does cake decorating have to do with urban homesteading? Well, this is my blog and I do cake decorating. I do my thing, I take a picture, it gets a place of honor at a wedding (or shower or whatever), it is eaten and it's gone. I do not have to find wall space to display it. I'm not doing this as a business but I get enough paying jobs that this craft pays for itself.
